Since its inception, Port Fairy Folk Festival has showcased female artists with its Women Out Loud concert series which celebrates the great talent of women in music.
In 2020, the Women Out Loud session will feature a stellar lineup. Eleanor McEvoy, Gina Williams, Grace Petrie, Judith Owen, Oriel Glennen and Sarah Carroll, hosted by YolanDa Brown.
Established in 1996 by the festival’s founding Director, Jamie McKew, the iconic session has been known by many a name including Women Sing Em’, Women Out Loud, and Women In Song. In 2017 the audience lobbied for the name to revert to Women Out Loud, as women certainly do more than sing. This concert is not only a musical celebration but a meeting of minds with dynamic conversations that put the spotlight on aspects of life, creativity and art.
Over the last 24 years, outstanding artists from around the globe have given powerful, magical, funny and poignant performances on the hallowed Sunday Session including Ani Di Franco, Kavisha Mazzella, Judy Small, Margret RoadKnight, Judy Jacques, Chris While & Julie Matthews, Deborah Conway, Kerrianne Cox, Mary Black, Kate Miller Heidke, Vika & Linda Bull, Janis Ian, Claire Bowditch, Ruthie Foster, Christine Anu, and Mary Coughlan.
Let the celebration of both well established and newly discovered female artists and their stories and songs continue.
