Sun Stage 3 10:00am – 12:00pm
In 1996 our Founding Director Jamie McKew debuted one of the great traditions of the Port Fairy Folk Festival – Sunday mornings celebrating the great talent of women in music. The first concert which set the tradition was A Woman’s Heart, and was hosted by Lynne Tracy with Hannah Schotten, and featured Bronwyn Calcutt, Kristina Olsen, Maria Forde, Lisa Young and Chloe Hall. Since that inaugural concert the iconic session has been known by many a name from Women Sing Em’, to Women Out Loud, and Women In Song. Regardless of the name, the integrity of the event and the talent and stories that get unleashed never fail to inspire and entertain. Since 1996 the honour roll of artists who have performed at the hallowed Sunday session is immense, as one would expect, as Port Fairy has always celebrated women in music. From Ani Di Franco to Kavisha Mazzella, Judy Small to Margret RoadKnight, Judy Jacques to Chris While & Julie Matthews, Deborah Conway to Kerrianne Cox, Mary Black to Kate Miller Heidke, Vika & Linda to Janis Ian, Claire Bowditch to Ruthie Foster, Christine Anu to YolanDa Brown … 100s of outstanding artists from across the world have delighted our audiences at this iconic event. On our website you can peruse the extraordinary honour role of artists who have been a part of this event for the past 23 years.
In 2017 many of our audience lobbied for the name of this concert to revert to Women Out Loud, and we listened, as women certainly do more than sing and this concert is not only a musical celebration but a meeting of minds and commentary and dynamic conversations that put the spotlight on so many aspects of life and art.
2019 Women Out Loud features Basia Bulat, Gaby Moreno, Liz Stringer, Mary Coughlan, Tami Neilson, Tiffany Eckhardt and Wallis Bird and is hosted by Sarah Carroll.
