The Young Folk is perhaps as much a philosophy as it is a name. Hardly a strict folk outfit, they acknowledge their folky influences while asserting their own youthful personality with a self-composed alt-folk-pop live set that includes acoustic and electric guitars, piano, synths, bass, drums, mandolin, and trombone. The Young Folk hail from Dublin, Ireland, and have spent the last couple of years touring Ireland and the rest of Europe, the USA and Canada, and have performed at festivals such as SXSW, MIDEM, Eurosonic, International Folk Alliance, Cambridge Folk Festival, amongst many others.
Their second album, First Sign of Morning (2016), has received strong reviews across Europe, including plays on BBC Radio 2 and quotes such as ‘slamming percussion, intoxicating voices, punctuating the warm harmonies that illuminate the horizon of a fiery energy’ (Pause Musicale, France). 2017 is their first tour to Australia.
