Meanwhile, Declan Affley was still dancing at the Drill Hall as the very first night of the very first festival blazed ahead unwittingly into a bright future for the festival. The hall was packed. Also known as the Fairy Palace, it had once been the silent movie theatre in town. The present festival directors grandfather, Ted Harman, played fiddle and banjo in a band for the movies in the late 1920s! The venue had also been a regularhall for weddings, including the marriage of the present directors parents, on March 17th 1947.
