Can you believe we are already gearing up again for the next Port Fairy Folk Music Festival??!! It seems only a few weeks ago when we were all celebrating the 40th Festival with hearty music, great company, art and culture, laughs and tears as Jamie announced his retirement. This Festival however never sleeps, and has a beating heart all of its own, not unlike the never-ending waves that pound our southern shores on the footsteps of our festival site. We can’t wait to see you again!
The 41st Port Fairy Folk Music Festival is taking shape with planning well underway! It will once again be an immersive celebration and showcase of music and culture which consumes the magnificent township of Port Fairy every Labour Day weekend. We have been inundated with applications from across the country and the globe, and we are excited by the wonderful acts which will be on offer, including outstanding traditional, contemporary and world artists, who will join you at the festival, and once again call Port Fairy home for this very special weekend.
The Festival has evolved to be this extraordinary event with its own community – music is the uniting force. This is due to the work of founding Director Jamie McKew, and the continued efforts and dedication of the Festival Committee. We salute Jamie for all that he has achieved and are delighted that he is an angel on our shoulder for the 41st Festival. Jamie and the Committee have produced a festival which defines a regional town and reinforces and celebrates its cultural significance. Our new Program Director, Caroline Moore, will not only take over the reins and carry on this great tradition, but will also be sure to add in snippets of her own flavours and ideas, as we continue to grow and evolve.
Do you like ukes… can you play with words? We need YOU!
As we prepare for the 41st incarnation of this magnificent event we would love to have your input. A little clue to one feature of next year’s festival is the appearance of virtuosos of the ukulele. From the USA to Ireland, Mullumbimby to Melbourne, uke players will be on fire in 2017 …. If you own a uke please bring it to the 2017 festival.
If you’re an ideas person we need a collective noun for a mass ukulele ensemble… If your idea gets over the line you will receive a custom made Hawaiian Shirt.
Please email your ideas to [email protected]
